The PASSION WEEK Question

If YOUR life was the only evidence for the resurrection of Jesus…

…would it support the claim that he actually rose from the dead?

My instinct is to reply to this question with a swift, firm “yes, of course”. Even if I can eventually arrive at an answer in the affirmative, this question is sobering enough to put me through the paces of examining my life.

Think about the mechanics of this question.

I’ll help you to do this by breaking the question down into a few parts…

1.) YOUR life…
… this being the collective of all the things that have happened to you and because of you. This includes your experiences, your circumstances (even the ones you didn’t choose), your decisions, your mindset, and your relationships.

2.) …the ONLY evidence…
This is the sobering part for me. If you can allow your imagination to live in the implications of your life being the SOLE source of evidence to support anything, then you might begin to realize how daunting that is.

There are far less important claims that I believe I represent well. For example, I believe my life’s journey would support the claim that, if you’re musically inclined, it pays to listen to music and practice your instrument. However, having to be the lone representation for that claim would be incredibly sobering for me. So how much more…

3.) …the resurrection of Jesus.
This is the event that is at the epicenter of the largest faith movement in human history. Additionally, the event in question is extraordinary even by generous standards.

Does your life contain the extraordinary evidence it takes to be the singular support for the singular occurrence of such an extraordinary event?

Just a little food for thought as you approach your passion week.
